o be joyful (the new shovels & rope album) is streaming now at mtv.
listen to it, okay?
you shouldn’t be asking “why?” - but if you are, the answer is “because it’s awesome and awesome things make life better and everyone wants a better life, even richard branson and tom hanks (i assume).”
8 Years by Colour Revolt from Daytrotter Session - 2/6/2012

colour revolt - 8 years (live @ daytrotter)
everyone in columbia is freaking out about seeing colour revolt on friday. and i would be, too (freaking out and seeing and freaking out about seeing), if i lived less than 1000 miles away.
but at least i have this (new) version of 8 years. at least i have this, all floating and dreamy.
new life goal (as of yesterday, when i saw the artist and realized it was/is/always-will-be the best thing ever created): learn to tap dance.
cool thing about tap-dancing #1: clickety-clack.
cool thing about tap-dancing #2: shark attacks can’t hold you back (and neither can cotton gin accidents):

Can’t Kids - Gimme A Grab by Boom Room Radio
This song is great. Case closed. It’s messy in all the right ways. And they cop a li’l line from The Waitresses (“I know what boys like”)! Amazing.
I’m pretty sure I’ve only met Adam once. He was opening for a show I was playing with Erich Skelton (Adam also played with Erich, if only for a short time) as “Falling Off a Building,” an act(?) in which he balanced on one leg, strapless acoustic guitar teetering on one knee, and sang songs that were all at once creepy and sad, frail and beautiful.
Before the show, we laid in the parking lot behind new brookland tavern and painted x’s on our eyelids, hoping to attract the vultures circling overhead. They never came. I suppose we should have held our breath or something.
this is the radness.
THOSE LAVENDER WHALES - “GROWTH IN QUESTION”
To help hype the first-ever full length Those Lavender Whales record, our dear friend Dorian at Lunch & Recess / SK803.com put together a fantastic music video at one of our monthly Fork and Spoon potlucks. The video captures all the weirdo fun contained in a Whales show while depicting our love for Columbia, SC and the community we are so fortunate to be a part of. Thank you everyone in the video, everyone who comes to the potlucks, and everyone who lends us your ears. None of this would exist without you.
shovels and rope - gasoline
first, those dogs are awesome.
second, i’ve never seen shovels and rope play before, and that’s just ridiculous. they’re from charleston and i’m from columbia - that’s so close! AND my sister lives in charleston (although i’d never crash at her place, for fear of dying from heroin-overdose by osmosis or something).
anyway, i’d basically given up on ever seeing them, given that i spend all but 3 weeks or so of the year in new england. BUT they’re playing in athens next saturday (jan 7), and i’ve actually gotten a pretty good response from people who might be willing to go with me.
…this is gonna be awesome.
(you should come, too)
Keep the Ghost Awake by Nick Bays from Patriarchs

Trading In (Ben Walker Radio) by Ben Walker Radio from 3 Songs EP

ben walker radio - trading in
song of the day, dudezzzz.
yesterday, i sang this song in the shower. this morning, i woke up with it playing in my head. right now, it’s playing in my ears. (well, it’s playing on my ipod, which is connected to my stereo, which is connected to air waves, which are connected to my ears, which…you get the idea).
i figured out yesterday that i haven’t seen him play live since february 3rd, 2004. that’s all kinds of wrong and ridiculous. hoping to change it soon, but some changes are hard to make when you live in the great white north.
(truth time…i was originally gonna upload on the way, but the file was too big)
(truth time, pt 2: angel has been on every mix i’ve ever made for a girl ever)
