colour revolt - blood in your mouth
i’m pretty sure the first time i saw these guys was at new brookland tavern on one of the hottest days ever of all time ever. they killed it, and they’ve been killing it ever since. (…and also before then, i just didn’t know about it).
in ben walker’s scenesc interview with jesse, he talks about columbia being a sort of home away from home (and part of the inspiration for a new family). my heart grew twelveteen sizes when i heard that. (god save the south).
(i took a bunch of videos, but probably won’t get around to putting up any more any time soon…not because they’re not awesome (they are), but because i should probably spend more time “working” and/or “sleeping”).

last summer, some friends and i hid a giant stuffed t. rex in marshall’s mailbox. about nine months later, he recorded this. and it’s awesome.
coincidence? or t. rex music baby?
We filmed this acoustic session yesterday. Marshall is one of the best musicians I know and he’s playing at the House of Softcore tonight with Kitten and The Restoration.
i’ve been listening to this for the last couple of days, and i’ve finally decided “yes.” yes it is awesome.
i’m biased on a lot of them, for friend and friendquaintance reasons…but i’d never listened to company or josh roberts before, and daaaaamnz. even better, i used to think sequoyah sucked hard…turns out they don’t anymore. which is good, because i found out a few years ago that johnnie is my non-blood-remarriage-cousin (i’m pretty sure that means absolutely nothing).
caveat: i know this is probably blasphemy, but i just can’t get into the internet. there, i said it and now i’m done.

austin crane - untitled (new song)
i first met austin in florence, sc - the town where my grandparents are buried. i was playing bass for erich skelton and the only other thing i remember from that night is fumbling through an impromptu cover of kelly clarkson’s “since u been gone.”
austin was 17 or so, sitting outside with johnnie matthews (who is now sortof my cousin) and a banjo. he was soft-spoken and humble, an all-around beautiful human being. hours later i found out that he was also one of the most talented songwriters/musicians i had ever met.
dig it.
