o be joyful (the new shovels & rope album) is streaming now at mtv.
listen to it, okay?
you shouldn’t be asking “why?” - but if you are, the answer is “because it’s awesome and awesome things make life better and everyone wants a better life, even richard branson and tom hanks (i assume).”
pedro the lion - diamond ring
this is probably my favorite video of all time, for so many reasons.
and i don’t say that lightly. i’ve been thinking about it for at least 3 years now, and i’ve made much more important decisions in much less time.
damien jurado played last night at the brighton music hall. as usual, it was awesome.
i recorded the show, and i think it turned out pretty well.
you can stream it here:

edit: a bunch of people have been asking me who the female vocalist is, and i’ve been telling them the truth - it’s melodie knight. then they say things like “beeeeeeeee-yoooooooooo-teeeeeeeeeee-ful” and “whoa, her parents named her right.”
pygmy lush - it’s a good day to hide
i saw these dudes opening for des ark last weekend. it was one of those shows where you forget to breathe. i bought their first album (crazy) and their most recent (crazybeautiful). aaaand they’re definitely becoming one of my favorite bands.
this doesn’t really capture it all, but what could? it’ll have to do.
melanie - brand new key
this song is awesome. and, as mike pointed out, it was recorded in 1971 but would sound at home on pretty much any cutesy indie folk album from the past 5 years or so.
benoit pioulard - kids are getting younger (fan video)
i saw this guy last night at spectacle, as phase I of halloweekend night II…and it was beautiful. every song was one song, and there were crop-dusters and field-fires, and we laid on the floor and we closed our eyes.
dig it.
