li’l bear | fall 2012 (the end)
a new mix! this one is kindof weird because i started it yesterday morning when it was cold and rainy, then finished it last night when it was hot and humid. in any event, i fear that summer is ending. and quickly.
tracks:
robby owen hale - front porch song one (live on a front porch)
black rebel motorcycle club - devil’s waitin’
brave baby - days of our youth
desert noises - highway cars
peter wolf crier - beach
colour revolt - 8 years (live at daytrotter)
damien jurado - nothing is the news (demo version)
des ark - some are love
shovels and rope - kitchen hallway (live at daytrotter)
rejectioneers - buried treasure (intermission)
starflyer 59 - just try
right away, great captain - i wait for you
all get out - bring it home
toro y moi - miss ya
the can’t kids - gimme a grab
clues - you have my eyes now
marry a thief - old enough
the strokes - i’ll try anything once
those lavender whales - family trees share their leaves
eels - things the grandchildren should know
i didn’t realize it at the time, but there’s a pretty solid southern influence here…12/20, by my count (robby owen hale, brave baby, colour revolt, des ark, shovels and rope, rejectioneers, right away great captain, all get out, toro y moi, the can’t kids, marry a thief, and those lavender whales). probably because we make the best music.

Son of Mine by All Get Out from Daytrotter Studio 11/9/2011

good lord, all get out are getting good (lord).
go listen to the daytrotter session here.
for a long time, i really didn’t like all get out. i liked nate. a lot. i just didn’t dig whatever it was they were doing. chalk it up to post-scene transitional judgment or something.
anyway, i’m sorry. i’ve probably listened to “the season” more than any other album since it came out. and you should be listening to it, too. it sounds like sweat and dust and the south. it sounds like home, and distance from it. it sounds…real.
so here’s the thing…i know i’m biased. i know. but i honestly think south carolina is killing it musically right now.
you want creepy country revival? done and done. you want some more party with your country? done. you want pop with your country? done again. you want chillwave (sorry)? done, done, and done. you want indie? done. you want indie + electro-folk-pop? done. you want indie + the old testament? done. you want indie + non-shitty-emo? done. you want indie + generally-weird-shit? done again. you want band of horses? or hootie and the blowfish (i don’t judge)? got those too.
oh yeah, and rap too.
…i dare any other state to beat that.
We do this too.
fall’s happening, and i made you a mix to celebrate/cope (depending on how you feel about it). whistling, zombies, and a bit of weariness…i hope you like it.
1) damien jurado - hoquiam
2) guano padano - el divino
3) dignan - whistler
4) maps and atlases - solid ground
5) foals - this orient
6) mewithoutyou - every thought a thought of you
7) all get out - bring it home
8) austin crane (valley maker) - babel
9) st. claire - the simple things
10) timber timbre - i get low
11) copeland - strange and unprepared
12) jessica lea mayfield - kiss me again
13) unbunny - casserol
14) brave horatius - carolina
15) the love language - this blood is our own
16) castanets - worn from the fight (with fireworks)
17) dead man’s bones - my body’s a zombie for you
18) hoquiam - zombies of the sea
the cover is a picture i took of my li’l sister in early august. i know august isn’t fall, but i do what i want.
